Sintu Design is a diverse industrial design and innovation studio based in Pretoria. They give business the opportunity to conceptualise products and services for the market. They achieve this by designing, developing concepts, building installations and developing creative brand activations for ad agencies and brands.
The design studio recently announced its Sketchathon programme that aims to educate and train the youth of South Africa in design, concept sketching and prototyping.
The Sketchathon programme promotes the idea of design, sketching and prototyping from primary to high school level. The programme is also a guideline for those who want to pursue design as a career, as the learners are mentored by founder and director of the company, Sibusiso Mkhwanazi as well as his passionate team.
Sibusiso Mkhwanazi of Sintu design stated “As we gear our children towards becoming the next great engineers, architects and designers, one critical skill that they lack is design thinking. Design is a powerful process to use, in discovering and developing the best ideas and solutions, after all design is all about problem solving!”
The programmes latest achievement is the transfer of design skills and thinking at the Stanger ML Sultan Secondary school in Kwa Zulu Natal, as well as Hoerskool Silverton in Pretoria.
“After the Sketchathon programme, I think I have enough confidence to tell the world to just keep calm and design!” Said the design student Pontso Stoffles.
Sintu design has had the opportunity to style, package and brand a number of products, namely: Makhamisa SA which is a dinning product (hot sauce/spice) that has been inspired by the South African/Portuguese dining culture and also something for the hair lovers, which is a natural African hair product called Hairtural which can be found at your local stores like Clicks and Spar.
