Platform are delighted to announce that they have been appointed to oversee the design and development of the Zeitz MOCAA shop at the much acclaimed Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa which opened on 22nd September 2017.
Lead by Laurence Brick and Cathy O’Clery, the creative team behind 100% Design South Africa, Platform will oversee the Zeitz MOCAA shop design, visual merchandising, product development and design. They will be working in tandem with the curators of Zeitz MOCAA.
‘There is no museum shop in the country which has an emphasis on art-lead design and fashion that we will develop for the Zeitz MOCAA shop so it is a very exciting venture for us,’ says Laurence Brick. ‘The inspiration people will get visiting the world-class galleries within Zeitz MOCAA, seeing the phenomenal art born of this continent, in such an iconic building will generate a real desire in visitors to take away something of meaning.’
Cathy O’Clery adds, ‘We are designing and developing products for all ages and pockets from art-inspired souvenirs and keepsakes that will be a fabulous memento of their visit such as contemporary stationery, t-shirts, posters and postcards to special commissions, collectables and limited editions in design and fashion. We will be working with designers and artists to create a unique offering for visitors, art lovers and locals alike – the wealth of inspiration from the building and the collections is just breathtaking.’
Using fixtures created from art crates Platform have installed a Pop-Up shop which is now open until the completed shop will be finished and opened towards the end of 2017.
Zeitz MOCAA opened to the public on 22 September. Entry to the museum is free to children under 18 and R180 entrance fee for adults. Annual memberships are available at www.zeitzmocaa.museum from R250.
